Targus: Vice President Product Management and Marketing

Job Description: VP SOFT GOODS Product Management and Marketing

Summary Description:
Leads Soft Goods Product Development team. This team is accountable for delivering a robust new product pipeline that profitably increases Targus’ market share which is already number one in the industry. Title will depend on level of experience candidate brings to the position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Lead the development of a 3 year strategic product plan that keeps Targus in a leadership position.
2. Lead the development of the Annual Marketing Plan.
3. Support development of Advertising and Communication strategies.
4. Insure proper product features, price and positioning of the soft goods product line.
5. Lead the development of packaging structure and graphics as well as promotional packaging and merchandising support.
6. Lead new product development activities on a day to day basis and ensure the development of new products. The level of product development may range from “off the shelf” to OEM depending upon the scope of the project.
7. Develop customer level strategic marketing plans to drive the development of new products and ensure that new product initiatives deliver added value to Targus and the market place overall.
8. Ensure that the interface between marketing, sales, design, suppliers, and customers is smooth and productive, with the result that consumers and customers are completely satisfied with the products offered by Targus.
9. Develop market research plans to ensure that key decisions are based on sound consumer insights and marketplace facts.
10. Manage effective working relationships with Design & Operations (sourcing) to ensure new products are introduced on time, on budget and meet specifications.
11. Prepare and present products and marketing programs, both written and verbal, to Management Staff, and other interested parties as required.
12. Lead development of Brand and Product selling stories for use in sales presentations.
13. Lead account teams in continuous planning efforts and analysis by providing regular updates to account planning documents, monitoring plan-o-gram updates and unit performance. Work closely with sales managers to prepare for effective line reviews and plan-o-gram modifications to ensure solid sell through and profitability of Targus SKUs.
14. Effectively manage product life cycles from concept to phase out. This includes following the various corporate processes for New Product Development, Packaging and Item Inactivation/Phase Out.
15. Assist Marketing Team (and its members) in any other efforts as needed.

• Ability to perform financial and statistical analysis and translate in to an action plan.

• High moral and ethical standards.
• Have a sense of urgency, be a self-starter and operate with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to be a team player by taking initiative to assist team mates as needed to spread the workload and to meet deadlines.
• Willingness/ability to work over time to complete projects as needed.

Education Requirements:
• Ideal candidate will possess a College Degree related to consumer marketing; graduate business degree also highly desirable.

Experience Requirements:
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in marketing brand management, preferably in consumer goods, dealing with Retail and Commercial channels, including the successful development and launch of new products.

Other Qualifications and Physical Requirements:
• Ability to deal with multiple priorities within a time sensitive environment.
• This position will require approximately 10% travel, including international travel.

Reporting Relationship:
• Reports to the Senior VP of Sales and Marketing.

Experience:
Extremely strong background in Consumer Packaged Goods classical markeing and product management from well-recognized brands in soft goods products. Proven leadership over teams, process driven, strong interface at all levels. This is an outstanding key leadership position with the main product lines for Targus, number one in the business case industry.

Adirondack Conservation Intern


JOB TITLE:
ADIRONDACK CONSERVATION INTERNLOCATION: Adirondack Chapter office, Keene Valley, NY
POSITION SUMMARY:
This summer internship provides hands-on exposure to all aspects of The Nature Conservancy–Adirondack Chapter’s and the Adirondack Land Trust’s work, both in the field and at our office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead Project: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, update the Chapter’s website. Research and draft content, and select images and video, while following TNC’s visual identity, writing and website formatting guidelines. (2-3 weeks)
• Communications and Marketing: Assist the Director of Communications with preparing outreach, fundraising, educational, marketing and other materials for various audiences, including members, donors and the media. Assist in drafting and issuing press releases. Time permitting, help update brochures for one or more preserves. (2+ weeks)
• Fundraising: Assist Philanthropy staff with all aspects of fundraising trips and special events, particularly in support of our Heart of the Adirondacks project, including logistics, donor relations, and producing informational materials. Assist with one or more member field trips, and with the Annual Membership Meeting and Field Day logistics. (1-2 weeks)
• Threat Abatement: Assist the Invasive Species Project Coordinator with the control and monitoring of invasive plants at our preserves and at ecologically critical sites within the Adirondack Park. Directly assist with plant identification and rapid assessment and controls for infestations within APA jurisdictional wetlands, NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Forest Preserve, and NYS Dept. of Transportation rights-of-way. (2 weeks)
• Stewardship: Assist the Land Stewardship Coordinator with maintenance work at our nature preserves throughout the Adirondack Park; visit those properties periodically to help with local outreach, and to document and take care of problems like illegal dumping of trash. Time permitting, update maps of conservation easements. (2 weeks)
• Conservation Science: Assist the Conservation Scientist with ongoing science projects. Priority projects may include a state-wide aquatic connectivity analysis or the development of forest health and monitoring measures. (1 week)
• Debrief: Maintain a journal documenting your experiences as an intern, and debrief with staff at the end of the summer. (Up to 1 week)
• General: The intern will work closely with many members of the staff, and will report directly to the Director of Communications. In addition to the listed duties, there may be clerical and other work as needed and as our summer work priorities evolve, as special opportunities arise, and as the intern’s interests dictate. Work will be both in the office – attending meetings, working on the computer, etc. – and in the field.
• Additional Training Opportunities: The intern will be exposed to a broad range of educational opportunities during the course of the summer field season. These may include learning about alpine plant identification and our efforts to protect sensitive alpine habitats, training sessions in identification of invasive plant species, accompanying our consulting ecologists in their field work, as well as meeting the inspirational conservationists who founded this program. Interning with a global conservation organization will broaden the selected candidate’s knowledge of worldwide conservation issues and strategies for addressing threats to biodiversity.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• At least 18 years old
• Adirondack resident or native preferred
• Minimum educational background: high school graduate, with preference for college/university students or recent graduate• Motivated self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Well-organized
• Demonstrated interest in conservation issues
• In good physical condition; enjoys working outdoors; comfortable handling a canoe
• Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel
• Valid drivers license and clean driving record
• A reliable vehicle (job requires driving throughout the Adirondack Park)

  • Experience using power tools and a chainsaw preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in Arc GIS preferred but not required

The Adirondack Conservation Intern may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These conditions:

• Present frequent possibility of injury
• Require long hours in isolated settings

Education
Advanced university degree in social sciences with major in demography, international migration or urban studies, sociology, statistics or economics with an emphasis on population dynamics. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience in social development with emphasis on international migration and urbanization and publications that demonstrate mastery of population studies techniques, research and analysis, or other relevant field may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in social development and population analysis and research, of which at least 3 years should involve experience in the area of international migration. Experience with editing technical papers for publication and in supervising the preparation of camera ready manuscripts.

Languages
Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable and knowledge of French is an added advantage.
